On January 5, 2023, The Social Captains, in collaboration with Karuthal, orchestrated Food Donation Drive 7.0 at South Railway Station, Ernakulam. A compassionate team of 8 volunteers, comprised of dedicated interns from St. Aloysius Autonomous College, Mangalore, actively participated in this noble cause. Their collective mission was to extend support by providing essential food to 50 economically backward individuals facing challenges.
Demonstrating community solidarity, the volunteers collected more than 30 thoughtfully prepared food packets from various households. These nutritious meals were then distributed to those in need, creating a positive impact on the lives of individuals near South Railway Station, Ernakulam. Conducting surveys and employing innovative technology, they generated QR codes and geotagged 741 households, establishing a digital framework to streamline the waste management process. This initiative facilitated direct interaction with residents, fostering a deeper understanding of their needs and concerns. Promoting awareness on waste management by engaging 10 youth
In May 2023, we are excited to share our collaboration with Cochin Corporation, Suchitwa Mission, and Heal Kochi for a Community Awareness Campaign on Waste Management in Ravipuram, Ernakulam, as part of Good Deeds Day 2023!
Our 51 dedicated volunteers embarked on a mission to establish a proper waste management system in Ravipuram. Conducting surveys, generating QR codes for waste management, and geotagging houses for 741 households allowed us to digitally streamline the process, enabling direct interaction with residents to better understand their needs and concerns. Authorities provided a dedicated container as the Material Collection Facility (MCF), where plastic waste from households is sorted. Our 10 volunteers collaborated to transform the MCF, cleaning and beautifying the facility. They also created awareness-related artwork featuring pictures and quotes, visually conveying important waste management messages to the community.

Over 35+ enthusiastic volunteers came together to form a powerhouse of compassion, sharing their stories, experiences, and dedication to community service. Our journey began with a heartwarming Circle of Trust, where each volunteer introduced themselves and their unique journey. This set the tone for the incredible connections that followed.

On August 27, 2023, our incredible volunteers in Malappuram gathered at Gandhi Bhavan, Wandoor, to spread the joy of Onam! With hearts full of compassion, around 15 dedicated volunteers joined hands to celebrate this special festival with over 20 cheerful inmates of the local orphanage. Under the guidance of the Malappuram Coordinators of Social Captains, the event "Ormayilor Onam" was beautifully organized.
The day was filled with vibrant traditions, including an elaborate Ona Sadya feast, mesmerizing Ona Pookalam floral designs, and the vibrant Ona Kodi attire. Waste Management Survey & Geotagging
Promoting awareness on waste management and geotagging 5000 houses
On July to August 2023, in collaboration with Kalamassery Municipality and Green Village, we initiated a groundbreaking waste management project to address urban waste challenges. Over 36+ dedicated volunteers actively participated in leading awareness campaigns, conducting surveys, and geotagging Bio-Bins in more than 5000 households.
The primary objective was to implement biobin geo-tagging under the Kalamassery municipality. Encompassing 5000+ households, our survey played a pivotal role in raising awareness about responsible waste management practices, ensuring proper biobin usage, and facilitating their correct installation. At the core of this initiative lies the innovative Bio Bin Waste Management System, now recognized as the Kalamassery model, offering a sustainable solution to the waste crisis. Our project has a dual focus: effective implementation of the Bio Bin System and the establishment of a comprehensive waste management framework for the entire state.

Plastic Ban & Social Media Survey
Promoting awareness on waste management and surveying 245 communit people
From August 14 to 21, 2023, The Social Captains collaborated with Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group and the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change for a comprehensive survey in Kochi. Ten dedicated volunteers conducted over 245 surveys to gauge public perspectives on plastic waste management, the ban on single-use plastics, and the role of social media in raising awareness and driving behavior change.
The survey included a diverse group of participants, ranging from waste pickers to homemakers, college students to small vendors. This initiative provided valuable insights into the community's experiences with plastic waste and social media.
In partnership with Chintan and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, The Social Captains are actively working to empower Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in effectively implementing the 'Ban on Single Use Plastic' under the Plastic Waste Management Rules 2021. As part of this project, Kochi Corporation is one of the selected ULBs.

Responsibly disposing of 2000 Kg of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste
From November 16 to 18, 2023, at Adimalathura Beach in Thiruvananthapuram, we are thrilled to share the success of our collaboration with @urbantrash.in and @keralastartupmission at Huddle Global 2023 - India's Largest Beachside StartUp Festival!
During the event, we transformed it into a Zero Waste extravaganza, thanks to the efforts of 15 incredible volunteers. They worked tirelessly to manage waste and achieved a remarkable feat by removing 2000+kg of non-biodegradable waste and 400+kg of waste. Special appreciation goes out to the volunteers, including those recognized by Mr. Anoop Ambika, the CEO of Kerala StartUp Mission, for their outstanding contributions.

Kerala-Maharashtra Volunteer Exchange Program
a week of impactful volunteering
On November 4-10, 2023, as part of the Kerala-Maharashtra Volunteer Exchange Program in collaboration with Shikshanganga Foundation @shikshan_ganga_official, seven enthusiastic volunteers from Maharashtra joined us in Thiruvananthapuram for a week of impactful volunteering. At Namaste Children's Home, our volunteers organized engaging science experiments and games for 48 students, turning learning into a joyous experience. They also donated sweets and hosted cultural programs, fostering connections with the residents.
Palliative care home visits with Pallium India left our volunteers deeply moved, witnessing impactful activities for patients. Balancing work and leisure, the team explored cultural and tourist gems in Trivandrum, creating a perfect blend of fun, volunteering, and unforgettable experiences. Special appreciation to Akshay Mallissery for his dedicated guidance, traveling from Kozhikode to host our wonderful volunteers. Each day, our amazing team also shared authentic Maharashtra-style dishes, adding a flavorful twist to the cultural exchange.

Dress Donation Drive 3.0

On November 27, 2023, our hearts were warmed by the success of our Cloth Donation Drive in Delhi! Six incredible volunteers gathered to make a difference, distributing warm clothing to approximately 20 people on the chilly streets.
The volunteers orchestrated a fantastic collection drive, rallying their friends and network to gather coats, sweaters, and blankets. Their mission? To bring comfort and warmth to those in need during the winter season. Winter can be harsh, and these donated items provide crucial protection against the cold, reducing the risk of hypothermia and related health issues. More than just warmth, this drive promotes a sense of community, showing that care and support extend beyond individual lives.

On December 4, 2023, we partnered with TATA Communications and Goodera to organize a heartwarming Braille Card Creation Drive in Kochi, Ernakulam.
Over 30 passionate TATA Communications employees joined forces during their office hours to create over 40 beautiful braille cards! These special cards, adorned with wishes for a Happy New Year and Merry Christmas, will soon be in the hands of visually impaired students, bringing smiles and festive cheer.

Skill Development Training Program, Ernakulam
training sessions on different topics
From December 11 to 19, 2023, we successfully concluded a 4-Day Skill Development Training Program, part of Project Kaushal, a collaborative initiative with VolGuru and VFS Global. Hosted at Bharath Matha College of Commerce and Arts, Ernakulam, approximately 100 enthusiastic students actively participated in 16+ engaging sessions designed to bolster their soft skills and prepare them for future opportunities.
The comprehensive curriculum covered a spectrum of topics, including Personality Development, Attitude and Motivation, Building Self-Esteem, Basic Finances, Budgeting, Investment, Communication (Spoken and Written), Problem-Solving, Networking, Time Management, Leadership, Resume Building, Self-Grooming, and Interview Skills.

Providing essential reading books to 50 economically backward students
On December 17, 2023, our volunteers worked magic at the Book Donation Drive, spreading joy at Orumanayur Anganwadi in Thrissur! Three exceptional individuals came together with enthusiasm, not only raising funds but also giving the gift of knowledge and creativity with books and colors to 9 bright-eyed students as a heartwarming Christmas present.
